I see this pattern constantly in my practice.
Someone comes to me after doing a detox protocol. Maybe a cleanse, maybe a supplement regimen, maybe something their functional medicine doctor recommended.
And they didn’t get better. Sometimes they got worse.
New symptoms appeared. Old ones intensified. Their body seemed to shut down even more.
And they can’t figure out what went wrong.
Spring is detox season in Ayurveda – and specifically in the SVA lineage.
Not because someone put it on a wellness calendar – but because the body’s channels naturally begin to open this time of year. The system is ready to release what it’s been holding.
Here’s what Vaidya Mishra taught me that changed everything about how I understand this:
Not all toxins are the same.
Most healing traditions talk about one type of toxin. But Vaidya taught me there are actually four distinct types – and each one requires a completely different approach.
If you try to clear one type using the wrong method, you don’t just fail to get better. You can actually make things worse.
Toxins recirculate. New symptoms appear. The system gets overwhelmed.
This is why so many detox protocols fail.
The first type is Ama – a cool, sticky, obstructing toxin that forms when food isn’t fully digested. It leaves behind a residue that clogs the body’s channels, like sludge in a drain.
This is the toxin most Ayurvedic systems focus on. In ancient times, it was the primary toxin people dealt with.
But today, Ama rarely stays as just Ama.
Because in the modern world, free radicals are constantly circulating – from stress, processed foods, environmental exposure, medications. These free radicals act on the Ama and transform it into something far more reactive. Hot, acidic, sharp, inflammatory. This type of toxin is called Amavisha.
And it’s often behind autoimmune conditions, chronic
inflammation, and symptoms that seem to come out of nowhere.
Then there are the external toxins – what SVA calls Garvisha. Pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, plastics, medications.
These are sharp, hot, and deeply disruptive. They can lodge in tissues and organs and create long-term damage if not addressed carefully.
And then there is the fourth type. The one Vaidya Mishra himself discovered.
He noticed a unique pulse pattern in patients who had been exposed to high-tension electrical wires in London – something he had never seen in his village in India where there was no electricity.
This was before cell phones and wi-fi even existed.
What he found was that electromagnetic fields create their own type of toxicity – one that disrupts the body’s vibrational channels.
These channels carry prana, the body’s life force. When they are polluted, the body can no longer make healthy tissue
.
This is why electromagnetic toxicity tends to find the weakest part of your physiology and create such significant issues there.
Vaidya named this toxin Indra Vajra Abhijanya Visha.
And he didn’t just discover it – he developed specific remedies for it.
That knowledge lives in the SVA lineage because of him.
So why does all of this matter?
Because each type of toxin needs a completely different kind of support.
Ama needs warmth and digestive support.
Amavisha needs cooling, gentle clearing that doesn’t generate more heat.
Garvisha needs slow, careful support for elimination pathways. Electromagnetic toxins need specific protocols to clear vibrational disruption – not physical detox.
When I assess someone, one of the first things I’m looking at is which types of toxins are we actually dealing with.
Where are they lodged.
What is this person’s system ready to handle right now.
I know this personally. My own genetics mean I have to approach detox very carefully. I’ve learned from the inside what it feels like when the method doesn’t match the system.
And that experience lives in how I assess everyone I work with.
This is why personalized assessment matters so much. We have to know what we’re working with, and what your body is ready for, before we can work safely.
Because detox isn’t right for everyone – at least not right now.
And some people don’t need strong detox at all to get well.
I see this all the time.
Someone comes to me convinced they need aggressive detox. But when I assess them, what they actually need is nourishment and rebuilding first.
Or their channels need to be opened before any clearing can happen.
Or they need to cool down before they can safely release anything.
Some people heal beautifully with gentle support and never need aggressive detox at all.
Spring is the season when the body is most ready to release. But ready doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone.
If you’ve tried detox and it didn’t work – or made things worse – this might be exactly why.
I put together a guide that walks through the four types of toxins if you want to go deeper.
You’re welcome to message me and I’ll send it.
