If this time of year doesn’t feel joyful for you …if it feels heavy, lonely, or hard …I want you to know: you’re not alone, and there’s nothing wrong with you.
I’ve been there myself.
There have been years when the holidays felt more like something to survive than celebrate. When the gap between what I was “supposed” to feel and what I actually felt was so wide I didn’t know how to bridge it.
Not everyone has family to gather with. Not everyone is well enough to celebrate. Not everyone feels safe in the season that’s supposed to feel magical.
For some of us, the holidays bring up grief, trauma, loneliness, old memories, or the exhaustion of trying to “act normal.”
Sensitive? You’re probably feeling all of it even more… the pressure to be festive, the expectation to be cheerful, the insistence that this time should feel a certain way.
Your body knows the truth.
It knows when the holidays aren’t healing. It knows when you’re just trying to get through them. It knows when what you’re “supposed” to feel doesn’t match what’s real.
So here’s what I want to say:
You don’t have to pretend. You don’t have to show up cheerfully if that’s not what you’re feeling. You don’t have to force gratitude.
If you’re sick, rest. If you’re grieving, let yourself grieve. If you’re alone, you can say it’s hard.
Your nervous system doesn’t need more pressure right now. It needs permission to be where you actually are.
If the holidays feel heavy this year… let them be heavy.
And also this:
The way you’re feeling right now doesn’t define what’s possible for you. And the fact that you’re still here, still moving through, still listening to your body – that matters.
I see you.
I’m curious to hear your experience.
and I’m glad you’re here.
